Documenting ‘Muslim American History and Life’

If anything, Muslim presence in America has come of age rather quickly in the past several decades. The transformation of the question an average American might ask from “Muslims, who?” to “Who ARE these Muslims?” is a significant one. It speaks volumes for the fact that, for better or for worse, ‘Islam’ and ‘Muslims’ have become almost household words in the American social milieu. The nature and roots of such a transformation are significant subject of research and analysis by scholars, researchers, and journalists, among others. This points to the need for preserving and providing access to primary sources of information – an archive such as the one getting off the ground at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
