The sun will rise on Wednesday, but will there be sunshine?

Indeed, the sun will rise on Wednesday, November 7, as it always does. But, will there be sunshine or will it be all cloudy? Who will be in the sun and who will be in the shadow? These are questions that we cannot answer until perhaps the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Perhaps not even then. One question we must attempt to answer, though, and that question is “Whither Muslim Americans?”

With the gradual, some will say steep, rise of Islamophobia in the country, Muslims will continue to be tested in their ability to respond but not retaliate, engage the un-informed but not allow themselves to be enraged by them. Will that be easier or more difficult past coming Wednesday? We don’t know. We do know that this is a long road to travel, and the end may not be in sight for some time to come. All we can do is to push ahead with the confidence that patient persistence will win us friends along the way.

Tuesday is the key to what Wednesday will usher in.
